Since you're here, let's tell you a little bit about how we met!
Before we even met, fate (and family) were already at work behind the scenes.
It all started with Shubhra Kumar—who plays a key role in both of our lives. She’s Neerav’s sister-in-law (married to his brother, Nikhil) and also a close friend of Sangita’s from business school.
Back in 2021, Neerav’s family was on vacation in Puerto Vallarta. As Shubhra tells the story, while everyone was lounging by the pool, Neerav stepped away for a bit. That’s when his mom saw her chance. Turning to Shubhra, she asked, “Do you know anyone who might be a good match for Neerav?”
Without hesitation, Shubhra mentioned Sangita. But there was one problem—Sangita was living in Korea at the time. The timing wasn’t quite right.
But the seed had been planted.
Fast forward to February 2023. Sangita, now back from Korea, is scrolling through Hinge when she sees someone who has liked her profile. His name is Neerav. He has a great smile. But what really catches her eye is a family photo (the very one on the left!)—because in that picture, she recognizes Nikhil.
Putting the pieces together, she realizes this must be Shubhra’s brother-in-law. She messages Shubhra right away.
Shubhra is thrilled. She shares that she had planned to set them up but was waiting for Sangita to move back. She immediately launches into a pitch about how great Neerav is. Convinced, Sangita swipes right.
And just like that, a year after that first conversation in Puerto Vallarta, our story finally began.
Shubhra takes full credit for the match (and Sangita agrees). Neerav, however, believes they didn’t need any external help.
From that first swipe to today, it has been an incredible journey—full of laughter, adventure, and a shared love of food, family, and fun. Along the way, Sangita has introduced Neerav to the world of Korean dramas and food, while Neerav has taught Sangita more about the Sacramento Kings than she ever thought she’d know (though her heart still belongs to the Warriors).
The Proposal
On September 7, 2024 Neerav proposed on a beautiful day in Marin headlands, followed by brunch on the water in Sausalito surrounded by the presence of Sangita’s father, and ending with an evening celebration with family, complete with cinnamon cupcakes.
(He did very well.)
